September 4th, 2025 – The School of Graduate Studies (SGS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), successfully conducted a Building Evacuation Drill today as part of its proactive measures to ensure the highest standards of safety for its staff and visitors. This specific exercise focused on emergency response protocols in the event of an earthquake or significant structural tremors. The drill, which commenced in the morning, involved the seamless coordination of the SGS Emergency Response Team (ERT). The organizational structure for the exercise was led by Mrs. Norhasliza Hassan as the Incident Commander, supported by Mrs. Siti Suriani as the Deputy Incident Commander. As soon as the emergency alarm was activated, Mr. Hafiz, serving as the Occupational Safety and Health Officer, ensured that all safety protocols were strictly followed to minimize any risk of injury during the evacuation process.

The efficiency of the field operations was managed by Ms. Shazleen, the Operations Section Chief. To ensure the building was completely cleared within the stipulated time, Mr. Fadirul and Mr. Afif acted as Building Evacuation Officers, conducting thorough sweeps of every floor. Simultaneously, Mr. Syauqi and Mr. Arif, acting as Traffic Control Officers, managed vehicle movements and ensured that pedestrian pathways were clear and safe for all staff heading to the designated assembly point. Upon arriving at the assembly point, a rigorous roll-call procedure was conducted to account for every staff member and ensure no one remained inside the building. To manage potential casualties, the first aid team—consisting of Mrs. Rozalita, Mrs. Haslinda, and Mr. Irfan—stood by with essential medical equipment. The drill was further bolstered by the arrival of the Fire and Rescue Department and the UPM University Health Centre (PKU), who provided expert technical and medical assistance, testing the effectiveness of inter-agency coordination during a crisis.
The evacuation exercise officially concluded at approximately 11:30 am after the building was declared safe for re-entry. In her closing remarks, the Incident Commander expressed her appreciation for the full cooperation demonstrated by all staff members. This drill underscores the commitment of SGS UPM to fostering a culture of workplace safety, in line with the standards of the Public Sector Conducive Ecosystem (EKSA).
