March 27 th 2018 - Auditorium Radin Umar, Faculty of Engineering, UPM became the venue for the final round of the 3MT competition. The event, organised by UPM’s School of Graduate Studies, involved 12 participants. Judges for the contest, headed by Emeritus Prof.Dato’ Dr. Sheikh Omar Abdul Rahman, also comprised Datin Dr. Mardziah Hayati Abdullah, Dr. Azlan Shah Hussain, Dr. Christoph Baumann, and Mr. Ally Iskandar Mohd Mardzi.
There were three guests of honour - YBhg. Prof Dr. Robiah Yunus (Dean, School of Graduate Studies), YBhg. Prof. Dr. Nor Aini Ab. Shukor (Deputy Dean, Thesis and Student Affairs, School of Graduate Studies, UPM) and YBhg. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nor Azowa Ibrahim (Deputy Dean, Academic and Financial Aid, School of Graduate Studies, UPM).
The winner of the competition was Samaila Musa Chiroma from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences who bagged the top prize of RM1000 with his presentation entitled “Centella asiatica: A Potential Remedy for Alzheimer’s Disease at your Backyard”. The runner-up, Clement Wong Kiing Fook from the Faculty of Agriculture took the second prize of RM800 for his presentation entitled “The Tug-of- War between Microbes” and Yasmin Mustapha Kamil from the Faculty of Enginering took the third prize of RM600 for her presentation entitled “Fly and Help Keep Mother Earth Safe!”. Despite not selected as a finalist, Mohd Hanafee Zin from the Institute of Tropical Forestry and Forest Product won the people’s choice for his presentation entitled “Development of Automated Fabrication Process of Hybrid Biocomposites for Aerospace Application”.
For the rest of the participants, each received a consolation prize of RM100. The event started at 8 am and lasted until noon.
