October 1, 2025 – The School of Graduate Studies (SGS) organized a Used Cooking Oil Candle Making Course as part of its initiative to empower green sustainability practices and waste management awareness among the institution's staff. The course took place on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at the Lobby of the School of Graduate Studies, from 9:00 am to 12:15 pm, with the participation of 39 SGS staff members. The primary objective of this course was to support environmental sustainability efforts through the recycling of used cooking oil, while fostering awareness of more systematic and responsible waste management. Additionally, the course provided exposure to green entrepreneurship concepts and helped enhance the soft skills of the participants.

The course was conducted by Mrs. Hairunnisak Jalil, an Agriculture Officer from the Livestock Extension Section, University Community Transformation Centre (UCTC). Throughout the program, participants were guided through several key modules, including an introduction to used cooking oil and its impact on the environment, followed by a candle-making demonstration, and a hands-on session where participants had the opportunity to produce candles directly using recycled materials. Through both theoretical and practical learning approaches, participants not only gained new knowledge regarding the management of waste oil but also successfully mastered candle-making skills that have potential applications in daily life. These learning outcomes also opened opportunities for participants to explore entrepreneurial potential, particularly in the production of eco-friendly products with commercial value.
The organizers hope that such courses will continue to be held in the future as high-impact informal educational platforms, aligned with the university's agenda to strengthen a culture of sustainability, promote green practices, and contribute to the well-being of the environment and the community.
