January 6th - 10th, 2025, Serdang – In support of sustainability efforts and the green campus initiative, the EKSA Implementation Committee of the School of Graduate Studies (SPS) took a proactive step by organizing a used plastic collection campaign from 6 to 10 January 2025. This initiative was carried out in conjunction with and in support of the Plastic to Textile Campaign, organised by the Sustainability and Green Campus Section, Centre for Corporate Strategy and Relations (PSPK), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in collaboration with the Epal Training and Craft Centre (Pusat Epal).

The Plastic to Textile Campaign aims to raise awareness among the campus community about the importance of reducing plastic waste and to promote creative recycling practices. The collected plastic materials will be processed and transformed into reusable textile products such as bags, table mats, and eco-friendly crafts that can serve both functional and aesthetic purposes.
At SPS, the collection drive was carried out at several strategic locations within the school building to encourage participation from staff and students. Contributors were invited to donate used plastic items such as food wrappers, plastic packaging, and bottle sleeves. The campaign received encouraging support, reflecting the growing environmental awareness among the SPS community.
All collected plastic waste was then delivered to the main collection point at the PKKSSAAS Great Hall, UPM, ahead of the official handover date on 13 January 2025. This effort not only demonstrated SPS’s commitment to UPM’s green agenda, but also highlighted the collaborative spirit between various university entities in realising sustainability initiatives on a broader scale.
Overall, this campaign proved that small actions—such as segregating and collecting used plastic—can contribute significantly to environmental preservation. SPS remains committed to supporting similar initiatives in the future and fostering a culture of sustainability within the UPM campus.
