8 June 2026 (Monday) — SERDANG – The School of Graduate Studies (SGS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), successfully organised a Workshop on Making Body Scrubs from Recycled Materials from 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon at the Putra Sarjana Learning Space. The programme was part of an initiative to promote sustainability awareness and encourage the reuse of materials in daily life.

The workshop was conducted by Puan Hairunnisak Jalil, an Agriculture Officer from the University Community Transformation Centre (UCTC), UPM. In this interactive and hands-on session, participants were introduced to techniques for producing body scrubs using recycled and easily accessible materials such as used coffee grounds, sugar, and other natural ingredients. This approach not only reduces costs but also supports waste reduction and environmental conservation efforts.

Throughout the programme, participants were guided step by step through the process of preparing body scrubs, starting from the selection of ingredients, proper mixing techniques, and safe storage methods. The speaker also shared valuable insights into the benefits of natural ingredients for skin health, as well as the importance of avoiding harmful chemicals in personal care products.

The workshop received an encouraging response from members of the SGS community, including both administrative and academic staff. The relaxed yet informative learning environment successfully sparked participants’ interest in adopting a more sustainable lifestyle and creatively utilising recycled materials.

The organisation of such programmes reflects UPM’s ongoing commitment to supporting sustainability initiatives and community well-being. It is hoped that the knowledge gained will be applied in daily life, contributing to a greener and healthier environment.
Overall, the Workshop on Making Body Scrubs from Recycled Materials not only provided new knowledge to participants but also fostered greater awareness of natural self-care practices and environmental responsibility.
