UPM, Serdang - Dr. Maria Cristeta N. Cuaresma, Program Head of Graduate Education and Institution Development, the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) paid a visit to the School of Graduate Studies UPM on 10 April 2019 for a briefing session on University Consortium grants and SEARCA scholarships. The 2-hour session was attended by 107 postgraduate students and faculty members from various faculties and institutes. The briefing was also attended by Mr. Saiful Nazri Nordin, Assistant Director of Technical and Vocational Education Department, Ministry of Education Malaysia and Prof. Dr. Rusli Hj. Abdullah, Deputy Dean of Thesis, Learning Support and Publication, School of Graduate Studies, UPM.
According to Dr. Maria, SEARCA provides Graduate Scholarships for students from Southeast Asian countries to pursue Master and PhD degrees at member universities of the Southeast Asian University Consortium for Graduate Education in Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC). The member universities of UC are Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Kasetsart University (KU), University of Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and Bogor Agricultural University (IPB). As of first semester 2018/2019, a total of 1,688 postgraduate students from Southeast Asia have been awarded full scholarships by SEARCA.
She added that the UC also offers several grants for faculty members and postgraduate students in member universities to participate in academic-related activities. The available grants include thesis grant, travel grant for conference, research, courses, workshops and trainings, support for research activities or publication fees and dual degree scholarship.
