Master of Surgery (General Surgery) is one of the specialist programs offered at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UPM. General surgery specialists are very much needed in government hospitals, IPTA as well as the private sector in line with the efforts of the Ministry of Health Malaysia to address the problem of the lack of specialists in the field of surgical subspecialties to the community. Therefore, the faculty held this program aimed at producing more general surgeons to meet the high demand of the public and private sector for professional human resources with expertise in the field of surgical subspecialties. In addition, the number of instructors for this program will increase and will meet the needs of national experts from time to time. This program also aims to increase the number of general surgery specialists currently who are able to conduct relevant research related to health problems related to the field offered. This program aims to produce competent surgeons, comply with the principles of medical ethics, able to manage and complete general surgery cases in addition to conducting research and development in the field of general surgery. Master of Environmental and Occupational Health | ||||||||||
This program is designed such that the graduates can further apply the acquired scientific and critical thinking skills to conduct research in their own workplace with minimal supervision to produce evidenced based decision. Students will be exposed to the multi-disciplinary aspects of Environmental Health, Occupational Safety and Health which includes but not limited to the global and local policy and legislation, toxicology, industrial hygiene, human factors and ergonomics, research methodology, management system and engineering aspects in the management of Environmental and Occupational Health. Thereon, should the lifelong learning process pique their interests, the students can opt to further their study to doctoral level.

Master of Pathology (Application for entry is handled by Ministry of Health Malaysia) |
The Masters of Pathology programme is a 4-year postgraduate programme with the primary objective of producing a competent service hospital pathologist. This programme is implemented in 2 phases : Phase I and Phase II, conducted as open system. Phase I runs for one (1) year which covers 4 major disciplines of pathology : Anatomic Pathology, Haematology, Medical Microbiology and Chemical Pathology. Candidates will undergo teaching and learning in all the modules, ten weeks for each module, at the Department of Pathology, FMHS, UPM. At the end of Phase I, candidates will sit for the Professional Exam I in General Pathology. The candidates must obtained a pass in all the papers before they can proceed to Phase II of the programme. Phase II of the programme is of three (3) years duration in one of the disciplines of pathology chosen by the candidate. Candidates are posted at the accredited and gazzeted clinical diagnostic laboratory, Ministry of Health hospitals. Candidates are also expected to undertake a research project and submit a research project report. At the end of Phase II, candidates must sit and pass Professional Exam II in order to be awarded the Master of Pathology. Phase I : Year 1

The Masters of Family Medicine was started in 2011 after receiving an accreditation by The Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) and Ministry of Health Malaysia (MoH). This programme is an on-job postgraduate training programme for a minimum of 4 years and a maximum of 7 years. It aims at producing a competent family medicine specialist. The Masters of Family Medicine programme aims:
This programme is implemented in 3 phases: phase I (year 1) and phase II (year 2 & 3) and phase III (year 4). It is currently conducted as an open system. Phase I runs for one (1) year which covers 3 major postings: Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Paediatric. Candidates will undergo training at the accredited Ministry of Health hospitals. At the end of phase I, candidates will sit for the part I Professional exam. The candidates will need to obtain a pass in the theory paper before being allowed to sit for the clinical part. The candidates must obtain a pass in all the papers before they can proceed to Phase II of the programme. Phase II of the programme is of two (2) years duration. During the second year, they need to undergo 11 compulsory minor clinical postings, 1 elective posting and 1 research methodology course. Candidates will be posted to accredited Ministry of Health hospitals during this time. During the third year, candidates will undergo clinical training in Government Health Clinics, KKM and Family Medicine Clinic Hospital Sultan ABdul Aziz Shah (HSAAS) UPM on rotation basis. At the end of phase II, candidates must obtain a pass in the part II professional examination before being allowed to progress to year 4. Candidates in year 4 will continue the family medicine training at the Government Health Clinics. Candidates are required to submit and pass a thesis dissertation, a family case report and satisfactory clinical and academic supervisor report prior to the professional examination part III at the end of phase III. They are required to pass the Professional exam III in order to be awarded the Masters of Family Medicine. Phase I : Year 1

Master of Medicine (Paediatrics) |
Master of Medicine (Paediatrics) is a professional course offered by Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia. It is a four-year programme in which at the end of it, the candidates will acquire the core and essential knowledge of general paediatrics as well as various subspecialities in paediatrics. The knowledge includes basic fundamental theories, the essential clinical skills and sound clinical management concepts including human management aspect. This programme is expected to produce paediatricians to address the shortage of paediatricians in both the government and private sectors. The programme will also lead to the training of future lecturers and educators for the undergraduate medical degree programmes in Malaysia. Moreover, the candidates for the programme will be exposed to research methodologies and is expected to embark on future researches to enhance the quality of care in paediatric services in the country. The programme will also produce paediatricians who would go on to subspeciality fields such as cardiology, neurology, oncology and others to further improve the standard of child care.

Master of Medicine (Psychiatry) is a postgraduate academic degree offered by Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia. This program aims to produce competitive medical practitioners who have high ethical values and critical thinking skills to make informed decisions in the area of mental health. The world today is facing with challenging health threats consisting of a variety of emerging and remerging diseases. Public health medicine is a discipline of preventing disease and promoting health through the organised efforts and informed choices of society, organisations, public and private, communities and individuals. This programme prepares students to handle these challenges through multidisciplinary methods that fuse the latest public health knowledge, rational thinking and decision making, professionalism, ethic and collaboration. The Master of Public Health offered by Universiti Putra Malaysia will definitely assist students in their attempt to improve the health of the population. The programme covers all major disciplines in public health medicine such as epidemiology, medical statistic, health services management, health promotion, family health, environmental medicine and occupational medicine. This programme seeks to produce medical and health professionals who have strong foundation in the broad field of public health medicine, as well as adequate training and preparation to take up speciality and/or sub speciality discipline of their own choice.

Doctor of Public Health Program is a full-time program for 3 years or 6 semesters. Each semester runs for 6 months or 24 weeks. The maximum period to graduation is 6 years or 12 semesters. This program prepares public health professionals as a human resource with expertise in the field of public health. The program also provides an opportunity for public health professionals get special training to enhance their careers and meet the high demand for public and private sector for public health human resource professionals who have the expertise in the field of public health. As a result, graduates of Doctor of Public Health is able to apply knowledge of public health, research and information technology to solve the problem of public health at the local, national and international levels.

Master of Medicine (Radiology) is one of many offered by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia. Experts in the field of radiology is indispensable in hospitals, institutions of higher learning and private sector. This program is offered in UPM with aims to produce more radiologist to meet the needs of country that is still too low. The increasing demand for radiology specialists is expected to increase significantly because of the increasing use of sophisticated technology. Clearer and accurate diagnostic imaging can provide a newer information for the diagnosis of the patients. This makes the role of radiology more relevant. The increased use of interventional techniques in diagnosis and treatment of patients is a need to have more radiologists. In addition, the need in the career advancement of the medical officer in Malaysia will only be available with the existence of more specific training opportunities in areas of expertise. Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) is a specialist program at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UPM. Internal Medicine specialists are needed in the hospitals, universities and private sectors, in line with the Ministry of Health effort to address the problem of shortage of physicians ratio of internal to the community. The faculty provides this program with the aim to produce more internal medicine specialists to meet the high demand for the public and private sector with professionals human resources who have expertise in the field of Internal Medicine. Moreover, the number of academics for the program will be improved and will meet the needs of the physicians in the country from time to time. The program also aims to increase the number of Internal Medicine specialists who are able to conduct relevant researches related to health problems in this area.

Master of Medicine (Anesthesiology) offers a Master of Medicine (Anesthesiology). The program includes 4-year academic session which allows graduates gain knowledge and skills in the field of anesthesiology and sufficient knowledge in subkepakarannya. Master of Clinical Psychology is a programme that seeks to train those interested in clinical and practical skills that prepares them to be a competent clinical psychologist. A clinical psychologist is involved in assessing, diagnosing, and planning preventive and interventive interventions for a variety of psychological disorders that disrupts the population's daily and social functioning. This full-time coursework-based program covers basic and advanced theories of clinical psychology, clinical intervention skills, psychotherapy skills, assessment and diagnostic tests, adult and child psychopathology, neuropsychology, research methodology and statistics. In addition, student will be required to carry out research projects in the field of clinical psychology and undergo clinical placements at the Hospital Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah and other clinics or centres that provide mental health services.
