Dhaka, Bangladesh, July 17th, 2025 – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), through its School of Graduate Studies (SGS), has strengthened its international academic ties with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh during an official visit to Dhaka from 16th to 18th July 2025. The MoU signing ceremony, held on 17th July 2025, was followed by a bilateral dialogue session focusing on strategic opportunities for collaboration in postgraduate education and cross-border research. The UPM delegation was led by Professor Dr. Rusmawati Said, Deputy Dean (Thesis and Student Development), and Ms. Nur Shazleen Ilyana Sharifuddin, Head of the Admission Unit at SGS.
Through this MoU, both parties agreed to collaborate in several key areas, including the offering of postgraduate programmes, joint research supervision, academic staff and student exchange, as well as scholarship and sponsorship opportunities for international students. One of the key outcomes of the MoU is the opportunity for a number of UGC Bangladesh staff to pursue fully sponsored postgraduate studies at UPM. This development is expected to contribute to an increase in the enrolment of high-calibre international students and to further strengthen UPM’s reputation as a globally recognised institution of higher learning.
This visit marks one of UPM’s strategic efforts to expand its international collaboration network and to promote the university as a preferred destination for postgraduate studies in the South Asian region, particularly in Bangladesh. The collaboration is also expected to enhance cross-border research initiatives and human capital development through the implementation of competitive and internationally recognised postgraduate programmes.
