Putra Sarjana Seminar on Intellectual Property Protection

November 11th, 2024, Serdang – The School of Graduate Studies (SGS), through the Putra Sarjana Learning Support Program, organized a seminar on Intellectual Property Protection conducted by Mrs. Ashida Othman, Science Officer from Putra Science Park, UPM at Putra Sarjana room at 9 am. The two-hour seminar was part of the Putra Sarjana Seminar Series, which provides various information, tips, and skills to UPM postgraduate students. The positive response from students and participation from students outside the university reflected the significance of the topic.

Intellectual Property (IP) protection refers to the legal measures taken to safeguard the creations and inventions of individuals and organizations. These protections help to ensure that creators retain exclusive rights to their work, preventing unauthorized use, duplication, or distribution. The speaker highlight that IP protection encourages innovation and creativity by giving creators control over how their intellectual property is used, thus allowing them to benefit from their work. Violations or infringement of IP can lead to legal action, including lawsuits for damages or injunctions. To effectively protect IP, creators must take the necessary steps, such as registering patents or trademarks, using non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), and actively monitoring for infringement.

An active Q&A session took place proving the seminar was indeed an interactive and successful one. After a heated session of clarifications, the seminar came to an end at 11 am with a photo session with the speaker.
