VISIT FROM UNIVERSITY OF MAIDUGURI NE NIGERIA

Serdang, 18th September 2015:
University of Maiduguri NE Nigeria was established in 1975 by the Federal Government of Nigeria to cater for tertiary education needs of people in NE Nigeria. Postgraduate studies in University of Maiduguri is obtainable in most disciplines cutting across eleven (11) faculties and coordinated by the School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS) headed by a Dean and assisted by two (2) Deputy Deans (Arts and Sciences). The university is barely 40 years old. The University of Maiduguri signed an MoU with Universiti Putra Malaysia in September, 2013.

Professor Bulama Kagu (Dean of SPGS, University of Maiduguri) visited the School of Graduate Studies (SGS), Universiti Putra Malaysia on the 18th of September, 2015 with the sole purpose of having firsthand information on the success story of postgraduate studies in UPM. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Bujang B.K. Huat (Dean of SGS, UPM), supported by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tang Sai Hong (Deputy Dean for Student Affairs, Learning Support, Alumni, Industrial Relations, & Publication) and Mr. Saiful Azlin Bin Maskan (Assistant Registrar for Industrial Relations and International Unit).

The meeting was indeed a great success. Professor Bulama Kagu had an interactive session with the Dean, Deputy Dean and his supporting staff, covered areas of collaborations and experiences which spanned from the organizational structure, internet graduate Information Management System (iGIMS), thesis and viva voce structure, co-supervision of students, exchanges in external examinations and many more. All these areas were exhaustively discussed and possible ways of collaborations and adoptions and modifications were outlined on a win-win basis.

After the meeting which lasted for over three hours, the visiting Dean SPGS University of Maiduguri, Professor Bulama Kagu, thanked the SGS for availing him the opportunity of having a very fruitful discussion on how to develop their postgraduate studies school. He equally tendered to the Dean of SGS unreserved apology for the inability of his Vice chancellor to attend the meeting due reasons beyond his control. The meeting ended with the presentation of UPM souvenir to the visitor and a group photograph.
