The 66th Malaysia National Day will be observed on Thursday, August 31st, 2023. This day holds significant importance as a public holiday celebrated throughout the entire country of Malaysia. The 2023 National Day will carry the theme of “Malaysia MADANI: Tekad Perpaduan Penuhi Harapan” (“Malaysia MADANI: Determination of Unity Fulfils Hope”).

The theme “Malaysia Madani, Tekad Perpaduan, Penuhi Harapan”(“Malaysia MADANI: Determination of Unity Fulfils Hope”) was launched by Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil at the Esplanade near the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) on May 27 for 2023’s National Day and Malaysia Day.

Significance of Malaysia National Day
Malaysia National Day, also known as Hari Merdeka, holds profound historical significance. On August 31, 1957, the Federation of Malaya gained its independence from British colonial rule. This milestone marked the birth of a sovereign nation, and each year, Malaysians gather to commemorate the struggles, sacrifices, and triumphs that paved the way for their freedom.

Activities to Celebrate Independence Day 2023

• Hanging Malaysia flag “Jalur Gemilang” in vehicles, houses and shops in National Month
• Merdeka Day Parade Traditional dances, music, and performances
• Students participate in flag-raising ceremonies, performances, and competitions related to the theme of National Day
• Merdeka Day songs: Tanggal 31, Jalur Gemilang, Keranamu Malaysia, Satu Malaysia
