This field focuses on principles of the 5 domains of animal welfare; nutritional, environmental, health, behavioural and mental. The core of the specialisation is identification, investigation, evaluation, proposal and management of animal welfare issues using indices of deprivation in the domains stated above. Research in this field includes effect of stressful and nonconducive environment on the physiology, reproduction, behavior, longevity, disease susceptible and resistances on animals. Candidates may also conduct studies to develop blood, physiological and physical profiles for determination of cruelty to animals. Other potential studies include welfare of wildlife by assessing the behavior, environment, adaption and survival in captivity.
