SGS LINKS UP WITH QUALITY POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH CONFERENCE
Adelaide, 9 April 2014: SGS takes another step forward in its commitment to contribute towards postgraduate research, by participating in the Quality Postgraduate Research (QPR) conference held on 9-14 April 2014 at the University of Adelaide, Australia.
The QPR is a biennial conference organised by three South Australian universities: the University of Adelaide, the University of South Australia, and Flinders University. Held since 1994, the conferences provide a meeting place for those who do research in postgraduate education.
This year’s theme is simply ‘Quality’, to reflect the historical purpose of the conference. According to the chair of the organising committee, Professor Alistair McCulloch, the theme “also reflects the importance of universities in ensuring that they provide the best possible student experience”. The conference was attended by more than 200 participants with 150 presenters from around the world including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Europe, Asia and the United Kingdom. UPM was the only university from Malaysia which participated in the conference.
Associate Professor Dr Noritah Omar, Professor Bujang Kim Huat and Professor Datin Paduka Dr Aini Ideris co-authored a paper entitled “Great Expectations: Recognising the Supervisor’s Role in Postgraduate Research Supervision” for the conference. The paper, presented by Associate Professor Dr Noritah Omar, highlighted SGS’s efforts in recognising successful supervisory relationships. The presentation received excellent reviews, and among those who attended the presentation were one of the keynote speakers, Professor Thomas Jorgensen from The European Association’s Council for Doctoral Education, and Professor Margaret Kiley, UPM’s Visiting Professor.
The QPR has opened up possible collaboration opportunities between UPM and Australian and European universities, including research projects to improve postgraduate evaluation, learning support, and supervisory systems. SGS plans to continue participating in future QPR conferences in order to share experience and knowledge in the management of postgraduate education.Tarikh Input: | Kemaskini: | amir_peli
