Strengthening Partnerships: TETFund Engages with UPM on Student Support and Collaboration

SERDANG, May 15th, 2025 - The School of Graduate Studies (SGS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) hosted a benchmarking visit from Nigeria’s Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) on 15 May 2025. The session was chaired by the Dean of SGS and facilitated by the Institutional Relations and Financial Aid Unit in collaboration with PUTRA International Centre (i-PUTRA).

The visit was attended by five official delegations from TETFund, three PhD student representatives, and officers from the Student Financial Section of the UPM Bursar’s Office. The session focused on enhancing support for TETFund-sponsored students and strengthening institutional collaboration.

Key discussions included data sharing on student progress, managing sponsorship timelines, and addressing several students’ concerns.  UPM also presented its support initiatives, including the Fee Exemption Incentive for Sponsors Scheme (FEISS), and emphasised the importance of effective communication among students, sponsors, and academic supervisors.

Towards the conclusion of the session, TETFund expressed interest in establishing a Government-to-Government (G2G) Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Malaysia. During the session, both parties agreed to explore future collaborations, including the establishment of an International Collaborative Programme (ICP) with selected Nigerian universities, joint supervision of postgraduate students, and the potential development of UPM satellite campuses.
